Finally revealing my postcard submission for the 2020 Relief Conspiracy Postcard Exchange, and the process behind the design.
I’m so excited to finally reveal my design for the 2020 Relief Conspiracy Postcard Exchange. I’m about 200x more excited to see the postcards I receive in the mail! Not to mention, each piece in the exchange will be featured in The Harlow Gallery. There is even an online exhibition that will be free and available to all!
Behind the Idea:
The piece is titled “Window to the Soul of the Earth”, where I played with the idea of the ocean being more-or-less equivalent to the earth what our eyes are to us. There is a world under its surface which we only occasionally get a glimpse of. I personified this as the mind behind our eyes, which we only reveal to those most trusted, in our creations, or even not at all. It is actually based on a watercolor I started a few years ago, but never completed. Some mediums just don’t feel right for some ideas, I guess!
You better believe I absolutely bought some new ink for this project! I invested in Speedball’s Print Posse Pack, which proved to be WAY cooler than I could have ever even imagined. The oil-based ink gave a smooth and easy finish, and I used my Pfeil set to carve the linoleum!
